Example Use - Council Services
Local citizens can access a range of council services at the local offices. Some of these require the expert knowledge of staff whereas others could be easily automated. To reduce the queuing time and provide a better service, the council decides to offer a kiosk-based bill payment service. They wish to base this on their existing web-based service, but this is not accessible via a touch screen.
Cammax offer two possible solutions; a kiosk with an attached keyboard, which can be implemented without any change to the existing software, or a kiosk with an onscreen keyboard and number pad. This will require a new front-end (i.e. a kiosk display) which integrates with the existing system.
The council choose the latter option due to the ease of use of a touch system, and initially offer citizens the option to pay council tax bills via the kiosk. Initially council staff are on hand to assist people with paying their bills by this method, but are needed less often as people come to use the kiosk regularly.
The kiosk does assist in reducing queues, but is underused when council tax bills are not due. In addition, people note that there is no point in paying one bill at the kiosk and then queuing to pay others. So the system is expanded to allow payment of all council bills, with people choosing the appropriate option by touching an initial screen. In this way the kiosk is fully utilised and staff have more time to assist citizens with more complex enquiries.
