Example Use - Patient Reminder and Registration System

The managers of a busy hospital need to decrease the pressure on overworked clinic reception staff by offering patients an automated check-in and appointment booking system. They decide to provide a kiosk at each clinic, where patients can check in as they arrive for their appointments, and where they can make subsequent appointments.

The new kiosk system needs to integrate with the hospital's existing clinic booking system.

Cammax design a system which registers each patient's arrival by reading the barcode on their appointment letter and updates the existing appointment system. During the appointment, a consultant can mark the patient's record if a further appointment is required. On leaving, the patient scans their appointment letter again and the 'Make Appointment' option appears. The patient can then choose from available appointments using an on-screen calendar and print out an appointment card using the attached thermal printer. The system includes accessibility options such as increased font size and contrast, and a Help option.

After a successful trial at one clinic, in which queuing is substantially reduced and staff are able to carry out a greater number of administrative tasks than before, the managers work with Cammax to develop Version 2 of the system based on feedback from staff and patients. The feedback is gathered via the kiosk itself using a survey created in Cammax's standard KMS software. The system is then ready to be rolled out across the hospital.
