EXPO OUTDOOR KIOSKS GO ‘LIVE’

The new Expo outdoor kiosk are now live throughout the City of Manchester and surrounding towns. Displaying integrated GMPTE transport planning information the network of hardwearing robust kiosks will support annual passenger journeys exceeding 17 million.

The GMPTE journey planner terminals are placed at a number of heavily used stations and stops around Manchester's transport infrastructure. Key sites to have the new terminals include the Trafford Centre, Manchester Piccadilly,Bury, Wigan, Bolton and Rochdale among others.

The kiosk hardware solution was designed with RSL an outdoor kiosk specialist and the two organisations in partnership developed the EXPO kiosk based on the proven RSL principles of outdoor kiosk placement. The subsequent outcome is a robust, hardwearing unit which still mains a high degree of aesthetics and total functionality.

As well as designing and manufacturing the units, Key and RSL undertook the complete deployment of the kiosks. This cradle to grave approach encompasses site surveys, planning permission, civils and installation. All tasks were undertaken within a tight timescale and on budget.

The integrated software solution was provided by NetShift's Enterprise remote management solution combined with AIM’s journey planning software to provide passengers with detailed journey itineraries encompassing all modes of transport from buses, trains and trams to walking. The systems will conform with the latest government legislation concerning electronic dissemination of public transport information.

This successful kiosk deployment is the largest single outdoor transactional kiosk placement in the UK, and successfully demonstrates the total hardware solution provided by Key Technology and RSL.
